Main Hall
There are 6 themed suites in our main hall. Each suite features a housefront of either board and batten, lapboard or log. Each metal door has a full length tempered glass front so that our guests can see out and we can always view them.
The Suite Exteriors
Each suite exterior features an 1800s style carraige light, 6' vinyl coated chain link, textured epoxy covered concrete base and easy access to the interior suite through a deluxe dog door.
Each exterior suite opens up onto the large community play yard which features a PuppyPlayground and Pit-Ball game as well as lots of area to run. In the summer the area features a wading pool for water fun.
Suite 1 - Cats Rule
Your feline friends will be very comfortable here with lots of climbing equipment, an enclosed litter pan, Freshflow fountain and raised feeder. They can siesta in the hammock, cuddle inside a house or rest on top of the world. With two windows, one high and one low, they can view the antics of our K9 visitors outdoors, or other activities through the full glass door to their suite.
No feline is ever bored in the Cats Rule suite.
Suite 2 - Dogs Everywhere
One look into this suite and you'll understand the title - Dogs Everywhere. From all the different breeds represented in the wall border to the art hanging on the walls, there are more dogs than you can count. Several of the pictures show my own dogs (now passed on) performing for media productions in which they were featured. Sydney, my Aussie, sits in a hammock with a ball in her mouth for a USA Today article. A photo of my two Springers - Cherry and George when they were young; and a pic of my Old English Sheepdog, Thumblina with Sydey and Cherry near our fireplace.
Each suite also features a custom decorated shelf that holds our visitor's personal effects and a treat jar for their night-time snacks.
Suite 3 - Buddy's Place
You guessed it, I'm a horse fanatic! This suite is dedicated to my favorite horse, Bar Gold Willie, aka Buddy. He and I have been a great team since 1991, when he came into my life as a yearling. He entered his show career at the age of 21/2 and since has earned numerous Championships in Western Pleasure and Performance. I have decorated this suite with horses and featured photographs of Buddy working with me at Liberty (that's without tack for those not initiated in equine speak). Horses frolick in the fields and creeks on our farm and they also do so in this suite; within the wall border, of course.
As with the other suites Buddy's Place has a raised bed, raised feeder and personal effects shelf.
Suite 4 - Deer Haven
At Shady Moutain we are surrounded by wildlife. There are deer, wild turkey, hawks, falcons, bear (at the higher elevations), rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs, oppossums and much more. We have many hours of wonder and pleasure when the deer grace us with their presence. This is especially frequent in the fall as fruit drops from our trees in the backyard. It's not uncommon at this time to see deer peeking in our windows as they eat the pears and apples.
This suite is dedicated to these graceful creatures. They show their majesty in the wall border, comedic antics in the wall art and wonder in the window treatment.
Suite 5 - Friends Forever
Our pets are an important part of our lives. They are our friends and companions, our children who never grow up. We often put more effort into their comfort and needs than our own. Suite 5 is dedicated to this concept and to the fact that we'd be lost without our furry loved ones. Shady Mountain Pet Retreat was designed to cater to their needs...and ours - in seeing that our best friends are well cared for and happy when we can't be there with them.
Though I haven't yet found a wall border that conveys the concept of this suite, it still has all the same features as the other suites:
Raised bed and feeders. Personal effects shelf. Ceiling fan/lights. Window. Nightlight. And, the special feature of this suite is the extra-large dog door. Suites 5 and 6 are to accommodate our extra-large furry friends with saloon doors to their exterior suites.
Suite 6 - Labrador Luxury
Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is a luxury pet boarding facility. No suite exemplifies this more than Suite 6 - Labrador Luxury. This fully appointed suite features the extra large saloon swinging dog door, large window, raised bed and feeders, personal effects shelf and high quality art on the walls.
Labradors are everywhere! All three colors, no less. There are yellow, chocolate and black labs on the wall border. A three dog bakery poster and an Andrew Wyeth print of Master Bedroom, depicting a yellow Lab luxuriating on a bed. Even the window treatment screams - exclusive luxury club with it's yellow and blue stripes. This is the only suite painted yellow and blue, colors that dogs DO visualize. Preppy and stylish at the same time.
